Request Length field is the length in bytes of the request string.

Before calling DBCHCL for the Initiate Request function and if Variable Length Request is set to:

N, the application program must set the value of Request Length to the length of the request string.

Y, the application program ignores Request Length and sets the value in the two-byte length field that precedes the request text.
