AWS enables you to run a self-managed Aster instance MPP system directly in the AWS public cloud. As a self-provisioned environment, Teradata Aster Analytics on AWS is delivered as an IaaS, and offers a variety of multi-terabyte Amazon EC2 instances in the AWS Marketplace for the Aster Analytics on AWS product suite. AWS Marketplace is an online store that helps you find, buy, and immediately start using software and services.
Amazon EC2 is a virtual computing environment, allowing you to use web service interfaces to launch Teradata Aster Analytics on AWS instances with the Linux SLES 11 SP3 operating system, load them with a custom application environment, and manage network access permissions.
Running Teradata Aster Analytics on AWS is similar to running an Aster cluster in your on-site data center. To a database administrator, there are no differences between the two environments. There are, however, a number of AWS considerations relating to configuring software, migrating data, security, and data backup relating to system management that are explained in this guide.
An AMI is a template you use to launch a virtual server in the AWS public cloud, called an instance. An instance is launched from an AMI, and you can launch as many instances from the AMI as you need. Teradata Aster provides pre-configured AMIs for Teradata Aster Analytics on AWS in the AWS Marketplace to get you up and running immediately.
