How Teradata Studio/Studio Express connects to databases?
Teradata Studio/Studio Express uses JDBC to connect to Teradata Database, Aster Database, or Hadoop system. ODBC is not supported with Teradata Studio/Studio Express. The Teradata JDBC driver, Aster JDBC driver, and HiveServer2 (v0.13) JDBC driver come embedded in the Teradata Studio/Studio Express product. Refer Database Connectivity for detailed information.

Teradata Studio/Studio Express can connect to DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server databases. Select the database types from the New Profile Connection Types () to enable the connection types. How to add a database?
In Teradata Studio/Studio Express, the Data Source Explorer view provides the database tree with its database objects presented in folders, such as Databases, Tables, Macros, Views, and others.

- Select User Choice.
- Click Apply.
- Go to the Data Source Explorer view and right-click the Databases folder.
- Select . Add Database dialog box opens.
- Enter the name of the database.
- Click Add. The new database appears under the Databases folder.
Why and how to set the root location of the database tree?
If you prefer to display the database tree in a hierarchical format (nesting child databases and users) but still reducing the number of databases and users displayed in the tree, you can set the root of the database tree. This restricts the display to your database or user and its child databases and users.
Why and how to create a database tree filter in Data Source Explorer?
You can set a filter on the folders in the Data Source Explorer to filter out unwanted database objects. This filter also applies to the Tables, Views, Stored Procedures, and User-Defined Functions.
- Right-click a folder in the Data Source Explorer view and select Filter. The Filter dialog box opens.
- Deselect Disable filter.
- Select any of the following ways to set a filter:
- Expression: Filter through expressions in the Name drop-down menu.
- Selection: Select the objects from the list to be included or excluded in the display.
- Click OK to apply the filter in the Data Source Explorer view.
