Vantage now supports Intel's Intelligent Storage Acceleration Library (ISAL) as a compression method for data block-level compression. ISAL is a fast, ZLIB-compatible data compression algorithm.
Benefits
- ISAL can provide a significant decrease in CPU resource requirements during compression operations compared to the IPPZLIB compression method. The compression ratio (amount of size reduction) is slightly worse.
Considerations
- ISAL is compatible with ZLIB/IPPZLIB. In other words, either ZLIB or IPPZLIB can uncompress a datablocks that was compressed using ISAL.
- ISAL is not the default setting. The default setting is IPPZLIB.
