Feature Description
Analytics Database Nodes for IntelliBase Dell R730xd or R740xd
680 Platform Teradata Data Mart Appliance Maximum of one optional 680 system, consisting of:
  • One Teradata processing node
  • One disk array
  • [Optional] Channel server

The number and location of optional components in a base cabinet depend on the type of power used (ABCD).

SAS High-Performance Analytics (HPA) Worker Node Dell R730 or R730xd server configured for SAS HPA in-memory software.
SAS Worker Node Dell R740xd server configured for SAS HPA or SAS Viya in-memory software.
Teradata Multipurpose Server (TMS) Dell R730, R730xd, or R740xd used as an application-specific server running software peripheral to Analytics Database.
Dell R730:
  • Not connected to the BYNET network, but can be connected to the BYNET switch
  • Adapter slots:
    • Three PCIe Gen 2 expansion slots, low profile (slots 1, 2, and 3)
    • Four PCIe Gen 2 expansion slots, full-height (slots 4, 5, 6, and 7)
Dell R730xd:
  • Not connected to the BYNET network, but can be connected to the BYNET switch

Channel Server Dell R730 for interface between Analytics Database and IBM (or compatible) mainframe:
  • Dell R730:
    • Two 2.6 GHz six-core E5-2640 v3 processors
    • 256 GB memory in 32 GB LRDIMMs with two processors
  • Each chassis has:
    • Host channel adapters. Maximum of three FICON adapters in any combination on the same server.
    • No disk array support
    • Onboard connectivity to the Server Management network
    • BYNET adapter connection to the BYNET network. No AMPs are assigned to the Channel Server.

Extended Channel Solution (ECS) Dell R730 for interface between Analytics Database and IBM (or compatible) mainframe:

Dump Server Dell R730xd for crash dump data analysis.
Data can be offloaded from the production data warehouse environment to a dump server, allowing for analysis without disruption to the production system. The dump server must run the same version of Analytics Database as the production system from which the dump data was offloaded.
  • Two 2.6 GHz eight-core Intel Xeon E5-2640 v3 processors
  • 256 GB memory using 32 GB LRDIMMs with two processors
  • Two 2.5" 10k rpm 900 GB or 1.2 TB SAS drives for OS
  • Twenty-four 2.5" 10k rpm 900 GB or 1.2 TB SAS drives for storage
  • Onboard connectivity to the Server Management network
Enterprise Viewpoint Server Dell R730, R730xd, or R740xd server that hosts the Viewpoint portal containing portlets for customer management of the system database. Systems that have more than 128 nodes require dedicated enterprise Viewpoint hardware (rather than a VMS with a Viewpoint virtual machine). The enterprise Viewpoint hardware can reside in a 9400 cabinet.

Network Connectivity Server (NCS) Dell R730 for providing additional customer network connectivity options:

    • Two 600 GB SAS drives for OS

BAR Storage

Data Domain and Quantum products

Storage hardware and encryption key management servers. The following are used for BAR and installed in the field by third-party vendor personnel:
  • Data Domain 6800 (DD6800) or 6900 system (DD6900)
  • Data Domain 9300 (DD9300) or 9400 system (DD9400)
  • Data Domain ES30 Expansion Shelves
  • Data Domain DS60 Expansion Shelves
  • Quantum i3 Tape Library, Base and Expansion chassis
  • Quantum Scalar Key Manager (SKM)
Equipment from different vendors can be installed in the same 9400 cabinet, provided that the cabinet build and space allocation rules are observed.
BAR Storage Hardware

Teradata Multipurpose Storage Server (TMSS)

Dell R730xd used as an NFS storage target with the Data Stream Utility (DSU):
  • Two 2.6 GHz E5-2640 v3 processors
  • 256 GB or 512 GB of memory using 32 GB LRDIMMs
  • Twelve 4 TB SED data drives
  • Two 1.2 TB SED system drives
Dell R740xd as an NFS storage target with or without the Data Stream Utility (DSU):
  • Two 2.3 GHz 12-core Intel Xeon 5118 processors
  • 384 GB of memory using 32 GB LRDIMMs
  • Twelve 8 TB data drives for NFS
  • Ten 8 TB data drives for DSU
  • Two 2.4 TB system drives

All TMSSs have onboard connectivity to the Server Management network. They can also connect to BYNET switches.

Switches
  • Brocade 6510 or 6620 48-port Fibre Channel switch for use in BAR configurations
  • Dell X1026 26-port 1 Gb Ethernet switches (one or more primary and one or more secondary for Server Management, or as SKM switch in BAR configurations, depending on platform configuration)

Cable Modes Both single-mode fiber (SMF) and multi-mode fiber (MMF) connections are supported for the 10Gb Ethernet optical interfaces.
BYNET or InfiniBand Interconnect Redundant BYNET switches using BYNET InfiniBand. Used for processing node (TPA), PE node, and channel server communication.

A 9400 cabinet can contain redundant 36/40-port BYNET InfiniBand switches. A maximum of four pairs of InfiniBand switches can be supported in the 9400 cabinet.

Virtualized Management Server (VMS)

(Intel R1208WF only)

An Intel R1208WF VMS is only available in a System VMS configuration, and can host the following virtual machines (VMs):
  • CMIC – Server Management services for the system cabinets
  • SWS – Service entry for the system
  • Viewpoint – Manages a single Teradata system
Any remaining resources on the VMS are reserved for future use/expansion. Additional Guest VMs should not be added to the VMS.
System VMS consists of:
  • Two 2.1 GHz, eight-core, 11 MB cache, Xeon Silver 4110 processors, dual socket
  • 512 GB memory using 8 x 64 GB LRDIMMs, 2666 MHz DDR4
  • Two 1.8 TB HDD drives for OS

An Intel R1208WT VMS is available in both System and Cabinet VMS configurations, and can host the following virtual machines (VMs):
  • CMIC – Server Management services for the system cabinets
  • SWS – Service entry for the system
  • Viewpoint – Manages a single Teradata system
System VMS consists of:
  • CMIC, SWS, and Viewpoint VMs. A Viewpoint VM supports up to a maximum of 128 nodes and servers in a single system.

Server Management Web (SMWeb) Services
  • Intel R1208WF VMS: 13.x or later and ServiceConnect are required
  • Cabinet VMS: 13.x or later and ServiceConnect are required
Keyboard, Monitor, Mouse (KMM) Console The KMM may reside in the processing/storage cabinet or in the 9400 cabinet, and has VGA and USB connections to the VMS.
AC Power Subsystem
  • Four zero U PDUs, two on each inside rear panel of the cabinet.
  • Two or four AC feeder boxes on each inside rear panel of the cabinet. Available AC feeder box types: Power Types ABCD.
