BAR Server | A NetBackup BAR Server contains media server and backup client software. A BAR server is connected to the Teradata system(s) by a private gigabit LAN. This enables BAR server's backup client, Teradata TARA, to perform backup and restore operations to the Teradata system using NetBackup. |
Client or Backup Client (used interchangeably) | A BAR server where NetBackup Client software is installed. |
Master Server | A BAR server where NetBackup server software is installed that has been explicitly configured to administer all the other NetBackup components. The master server is also responsible for scheduling of archive and restore operations. The NetBackup master server can reside on one of the media servers, or it can be a separate BAR server from the media servers.

Master Server Domain | The combination of all nodes (clients and servers) that have NetBackup server or NetBackup client software installed and that are configured to point back to the same master server. |
Media Server | A BAR server where NetBackup server software is installed and has been explicitly configured to control one or both of the following:
A media server is under control of the master server. |
NetBackup Administration Console | The GUI, installed on the master server, that provides the administrative interface to the NetBackup master server and its media server. |
Policy | A NetBackup policy defines the backup criteria for a specific group of one or more clients. |
Remote Administration Console | The GUI, installed on a separate workstation, that provides the administrative interface to the NetBackup master server and its media servers. |
