Recommendations on Versioning
Versioning comes at a cost in database space and performance. The extra database space is needed to retain the historical information about each object. How frequently objects are modified in the repository will determine the extra space requirements. Performance is affected because the presence of multiple versions requires extra accesses to the repository to determine the currently active version of an object. Because these impacts are difficult to quantify for a specific environment, it is advisable to defer the use of versioning until the impacts are better known in your own environment.
