After the workload is defined, the next step is to analyze the queries in the workload and recommend secondary indexes that enhance performance.

1 Select Analysis > Index Analysis.

The Index Analysis dialog box appears.

2 The QCD should already be loaded. If it is not, click to search.

3 The cached workload should already be loaded into the Workload Name box.

If it is not, click .

4 Under Select Tables, ensure all the tables are highlighted.

Data Demographics are available for these tables. For more information, see Chapter 12: “Data Demographics.”

5 Under Recommendation Identification, enter a unique recommendation tag in the Recommendation Tag box.

6 Click Advanced to set additional recommendation parameters.

For more information, see “Advanced Button” on page 97.

7 Click OK to begin the analysis.

The index analysis engine runs inside the Teradata parsing engine to enumerate possible secondary index candidate combinations. The engine then evaluates them against the workload by simulating the index set and using the Teradata Optimizer to cost the queries using the simulated indexes.

After the Teradata Database returns with the analysis results, the Index Analysis Summary dialog box appears showing the analysis summary. The analysis also creates a series of reports showing the results of the analysis.

Go to the next step, “Selecting Reports” on page 42.

The Partition Analysis dialog box appears.

2 Under Workload Statements, the QCD should already be loaded. If it is not, click to search.

3 The cached workload should already be loaded into the Workload Name box.

If it is not, click .

4 Under Select Tables, ensure all the tables are highlighted.

Data Demographics are available for these tables. For more information, see Chapter 12: “Data Demographics.”

5 Under Recommendation Identification, enter a unique recommendation tag in the Recommendation Tag box.

6 [Optional] Enter a time in minutes in the Time Limit box to set additional recommendation parameters.

7 Click OK to begin the analysis.

The partition analysis engine runs inside the Teradata parsing engine to enumerate possible columns on which the primary index can be partitioned. The engine then evaluates them against the workload by simulating the index set and using the Teradata Optimizer to cost the queries using the simulated indexes.

After the Teradata Database returns with the analysis results, the Partition Analysis Summary dialog box appears showing the analysis summary. The analysis also creates a series of reports showing the results of the analysis.
