The analysis recommendations are stored in the QCD. The recommendations can be validated to see whether there is an improvement in the performance of the system in executing the statements of the workload.
1 Click Validation > Load Recommendation from QCD.
The Recommendations from QCD dialog box opens. See Table 28 for more information.
2 From the drop-down list box, select the QCD Name and Workload Name.
– or –
Click to load the QCD Name and click located next to the Workload Name to load the workload name.
3 [Optional] Select the Index Analysis check box to display and select Index tags for the workload, if any are present.
4 [Optional] Select the Partition Analysis check box to display and select Partition tags for the workload, if any are present.
5 If you select Validate on Another System, you will be prompted to log on to another system.
6 Click Next.
The Index Validation dialog box appears. See Table 29 for more information.
7 Click View Workload to check to ensure the index is correct.
8 Click the Data Sampling to set the validation sampling criteria.
9 Click the View DDL to view DDL statements.
10 Click Validate to start the validation.

Description |
QCD Name |
Displays the QCD name where the validation must be performed. This will be the QCD on which the recommendations are validated. |
Workload Name |
Displays the name of the workload. |
Index Analysis |
Displays the Index tags for the workload, if present. |
Partition Analysis |
Displays the Partition tags for the workload, if present. |
Browse (…) button |
Browses the system for the list of QCDs. This button is enabled only if the Validate on Another System option is checked. When this button is clicked, you are prompted to log on to the system on which the workload must be re-created. |
Next |
Accepts the inputs and loads the recommendations in the Index Validation dialog box. If the Validate on another system check box is selected and you have not logged on to the target system, a Logon dialog box appears. |
Validate on Another System |
Indicates the validation is to be performed on another system. When checked, Index Wizard prompts you to log on to another system. |
Option |
Description |
Target QCD |
Displays the QCD name where the validation must be performed. This will be the QCD on which the recommendations are validated. This field is enabled only if the Validate on Another System check box is selected. |
View Workload |
Select this button to ensure the index is correct. |
Table Name |
Displays the table in which the recommendation is made. |
Index Columns |
Displays the list of columns in which the recommendation is made. |
Index DDL |
Displays the text of the index recommendations |
Stats DDL |
Displays the text of the statistics DDL statement. |
Select All |
Selects all the recommendations in the list for validation. |
Deselect All |
Deselects all the selected recommendations in the list. |
Data Sampling |
Shows a view of the data sample size for the statistics to be considered for the tables during validation. |
View DDL |
Shows a view of the text of all the recommendations. |
Validate |
Starts the validation of the indexes on the specified system. |
When the validation starts, a new data source is created for the specified system if you selected the Validate on Another System check box.
After you click Validate, the system recommendations are simulated on the system and the execution plans for the statements in the workload are captured. During this time, the Progress - Simulating Recommendations and Capturing Execution Plan progress bars are shown.
The difference in the execution time of the statements is calculated and overall cost difference for the workload is calculated.
For information about the Validation Results window, see “Validation Results” on page 127.
